State Championship Power Lifting
Congratulations goes out to the Football team who went to Kenton
High School this past weekend and finished 3rd out of the 24
qualifying schools at the State Power Lifting Championship. The
Power Lifters had a strong showing by lifting 13, 055 Pounds. Thirteen
Thousand Pounds was also a team high for this years team. This was
Sidneys second year of Powerlifting under second year Football Coach Dan
Cairns. The team has showed nice progress over the last two years
improving its 4th place finish at the State Championships last year
and increasing its total team weight by 500 Pounds. It also marked the
first time this year that the team did not win a meet. The team had
been previously undefeated in local and regional meets this year but lost out
to perennial State Powers Kenton High School and Brookside High
School. Brookside H.S. is from the Cleveland area which also
happens to be the school where Dan Cairns was at prior to Sidney H.S. and
where they had won several State Championships under him.
Overall I was extremely happy with our performance
said Dan Cairns. We got better every meet this year and showed
improvement from last year to this year with our team total and team
finish. We have closed the gap a little bit more with Brookside and
Kenton and showed them that we were not a one year fluke and that we are here
for the long haul. We opened some eyes last year and knocked on the
door this year. Next year we hope to knock that door down.
