Burick Women In Sports Awards Banquet
Congratulations to seniors Elizabeth Clark, Shanna Fair, Theresa
Gase, Cindy Hemmelgarn, Stephanie Rickert, Ashley Roberts and Elyse
Roddy on being selected as the Sidney High School representatives
for the 21st Annual Rae Burick Women In Sports Awards Banquet that
was held on May 28th at the Trent Arena in Kettering. Elyse Roddy
was the Nominees for Sidney High School. The girls were treated
to a great meal and event that was Emceed by Newscenter 7 Anchor
Cheryl McHenry and guest speaker National Basketball Analyst Debbie
Antonelli.

Fast Pitch Field Dedicated

on Aschenbach Field
On Friday, April 18th
the Sidney High School Athletic department formally dedicated the
new Fast Pitch Field, Aschenbach Field. Sidney residents Roger and
Janet Aschenbach along with there son Doug, daughter Beth, son-in-law
Bob, grandson Reid and granddaughter Claire were recognized for
there generous cash donation towards the new facility.
Other individuals recognized for their dedication towards the new
facility were: Scott Roddy, Bill Ankney, Mike Roby, Joe Sturm (Sturm
Construction), Mike and Don Lochard (Lochard, Inc.), Mick Given
(Ferguson Construction), and John Freytag (Freytag & Associates).

When Phil Rosengarten approached
Sidney High School wrestling coach Jim McCracken three years ago,
the veteran coach was hesitant.
Rosengarten has cerebal palsy and
uses a wheelchair to get around. The disease, McCracken thought,
would have an impact because of his limited flexibility. Click

"Aschenbach
Field", New High School Fastpitch Diamond Named
On
Monday, December 17th, the Sidney Board of Education approved the
naming of the New Sidney Fastpitch Field to "Aschenbach Field".
Sidney residents Roger and Janet Aschenbach have donated $15,000
cash towards the new field. The Aschenbach had four children graduate
from Sidney High School, John, Eric, Doug and Beth. The family has
been a long time supporter of Sidney Athletics.
Aschenbach Field is located behind Sidney High School and Sidney
Middle School. The Sidney Athletic Department is extremely grateful
to the Aschenbach's and all the businesses and contributors who
are making this project a reality.
Fall
Sports Athletes Recognized
On
Sunday, November 18th the Sidney HS Athletic Department held its
2nd Annual Fall Sports Banquet in honor of all the Fall Sports athletes
and there families. The highlight of the evening was the presentation
of the GWOC North Championship trophy to the Boys Soccer Team, the
GWOC North Player of the Year and the Dayton Area Player of the
year awards to Senior Soccer standout Ben Danklefsen, the GWOC North
Coach of the Year award to Boys Soccer Coach Eric Harlamert, and
the GWOC North Coach of the Year award to Boys Golf Coach Doug Barhorst.

Sid!
Congratulations
to Sidney resident Heather Pellman for winning the "Name the
Jacket" contest. Heather was presented with a $40 gift certificate
to The Spot restaurant at Friday's Football game v Piqua. The Bee's
new name is Sid. Sid will also be known as "Super Sid"!
The
Athletic Department would like to thank the Sidney Cheerleaders
for their effort in putting the "Name the Jacket" contest
on and the 500+ people who participated in the contest.
2007
OHSAA State Award for Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award
<<
Sidney Athletic Director Brian Donoher presents Bob Guillozet with
an award on behalf of the Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Committee
of the OHSAA.
This award has been established by the OHSAA annually to each member
high school. The award is for a person in the community who exemplifies
good sportsmanship, a person who is a positive role model for others,
a person who reflects a high level of ethics and integrity in dealing
with students and the interscholastic athletic program, a person
who supports and demonstrates positive values, and a person who
has contributed to the well-being of the youth of the local high
school. Mr. Guillozet currently serves as the President of The Sidney
Athletic Booster Group. Congratulations to Bob Guillozet.

Champs Honored
The
current edition of Sidney Yellow Jackets Boys Basketball got a win
over Greenville on Saturday, January 20 as our first two Miami Valley
League Basketball Champions were honored before the varsity contest.
(Left to right) Brothers Lloyd & Norris Cromes represented 1937,
while 1972 included the starting five of Dan Swiger, Ron Johnson,
Dallis Bowditch, Jeff Collier, & Tom Asbury, along with Athletic
Director John Wolfinger, Coach Ken Miller, Assistant Coach Don Burgess,
Reserve Coach Bob New, and Freshman Coach Duane Elsner. Neither
team had ever been brought back for such a recognition. The Cromes

Basketball
Game Admission Entry
Due to the recent completion of the new concession and restroom
area inside the High School, the Sidney High School Athletic Department
has announced a new game admission policy. All spectators will be
asked to enter the gymnasium thru door #10 which are the northeast
doors located between the gymnasium and auditorium lobby. You will
not be able to enter the school from the front entrance circle.
There will be no pre-sale tickets available for basketball games,
all tickets will be sold at the gate. $6.00 for adults and $4.00
for students and golden buckeye card holders. Passes are still available.

Last Week the Sidney Athletic Department presented

Matthew
Casey wins Ohio American Legion's Americanism Award
Matthew Casey, Sidney High School junior and member of the Boys
Varsity Tennis Team, is a winner in the Ohio American Legion's Americanism
and Government test program. He will receive an all expense paid
trip to Gettysburg Pa. and Washington D.C March 5-11. Click

Sidney
Athletic Director Scott Stemple presents Michael Jannides with an
award on behalf of the Sportsmanship, Ethics, & Integrity Committee
of the OHSAA. Each school year, each Ohio High School may recognize
one non-student who plays an exemplary leadership role for the Athletic
Department. Among many activities, Mr. Jannides is the chairman
if the 200 club, event helper, licensed OHSAA Official and volunteer
tutor. He is probably best known as the proprieter of The Spot Restaurant.

Sidney
Athletes encouraged to develop leadership skills
Four
Sidney High School Student Athletes recently attended the Ohio High
School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Foundation Leadership Conference
at Wright State University with Sidney City Schools Athletic Director
Scott Stemple. Sidney students also met personally with area native
Bill Hosket, former All-Ohio, All-America, Olympic and NBA basketball
standout. Those students who attended the OHSAA conference were
chosen by Stemple because of their leadership skills in both athletics
and academics. Participating students were Junior Volleyball player
Molly Johnson (daughter of Greg and Cyndie Johnson), Senior Soccer
player Hannah Davis (daughter of Derrill and Dawn Davis), who is
also Student Athletic Trainer, Junior Soccer and Basketball player
Cayleb Paulino (son of Lorie Hurey), and Senior Football player
Jess Geuy (son of Terri Gerlach and Dale Geuy). "The attendees
benefit from sessions focusing on leadership skills, responsibilities
of captains, role modeling," said Stemple. "The
students were encouraged to make making positive choices, as well
as to learn about sportsmanship and citizenship." Hosket
was one of the conference's featured speakers. He was the HS Player
of the Year who led Dayton Belmont to the 1964 State Basketball
Championship. He went on to become an All-American and Academic
All-American at Ohio State. He was a member of the 1970 New York
Knicks World Championship Team. Conference speakers also included
two other Ohio standouts Maggie Maloy, the 2002 NCAA Inspiration
Award Recipient and another former Ohio State Hall of Famer and
WNBA star Katie Smith.
