Ankney

Derek Ankney, a 2002 SHS Grad, is a Senior at John Carroll. In 2004
he was an All American and is a two time All Ohio Conference Champion.
He is a two time qualifier in Wrestling. In the 2005-2006 season,

ranked 8th in the Brute-Addidas
DIII National Wrestling poll. John Carroll is ranked 13th in
that Team poll. In a dual meet with Division I Cleveland State (scholarship
athletes), Derek won his match 6-4. He was one of only two JCU (Div.
III) Wrestlers to win. He followed that up with a win against Muskingum,
a second place finish at the RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology)
Invitational in New York on December 3rd, and last night (12-6)
won at Heidelberg by a 6-3 score. His record over this time span
is 6-1 while his season record stands at 10-3. Derek doesn't Wrestle
again until after Christmas. He has a tournament in Ft. Lauderdale
on 12-29 and 12-30. There will be several of the Division III's
top heavyweight Wrestlers there which should give Derek an indication
of what he needs to fine tune before the league championships and
hopefully the NCAA's. Click

Swimmer
Derick Roe Chooses Eastern Michigan. Sidney High School
senior Derick Roe has decided to continue his educational and swimming
career at Eastern Michigan University. Derick, two time State Qualifier,
wasn't sure how his senior year was going to end up a couple months
ago. After making it through the qualifying rounds of the Sectional
Meet with an intense ear infection festering, his doctor kept him
out of the water the whole next week leaving to doubt whether Derick
would be able to swim in the District Meet. With a whole week out
of the water Derick was finally released to swim the day of the District
Meet. Derick went on to qualify for the State and eventually place
3rd in the 50 Freestyle and 4th in the 100 freestyle at the State
Meet in Canton this past March. The Greater Western Ohio Conference,
which had 5 member schools finish in the top 30, selected Derick as
the 2005 GWOC Male Swimmer of the Year. Congratualtions Derick and
Good Luck at Eastern Michigan! Pack your ear plugs! |
