Saturday 08/28/10
The Sidney Lady Jackets dropped a tough non-league game on Saturday night against Celina, 4-3. Sidney led 1-0 at half-time with the only goal of the half coming from Brittney Koester with the assist given by Lauren Elmore. We definitely controlled the ball most of the first half, we were just unable to convert our many shots. Sidney came out very flat in the second half, giving up a goal in the first two minutes. 10 minutes later, Celina converted two more goals in a matter of 3 minutes. We just weren’t ready to play in the second half and we had to make some defensive changes due to injuries. However, the jackets battled back when Konner Harris scored from the outside and Brittney Koester was able to get her second goal off of a header from a free-kick taken by Taylor Rickert. I thought we battled until the end, but were unable to get that last goal to tie. Celina is a good team, but I thought our girls played very hard. The junior varsity also lost with a score of 2-1. |

Sidney 4 Miamisburg 6
Miamisburg handed the Sidney Lady Jackets soccer team their
first loss Wednesday night in an offensive battle by a score
of 6-4. The loss gives the Jackets a record of 3-1-1. Sidney
got started early when just three minutes into the game Morgan
Headings crossed the ball to Brittney Koester for the first
goal. Sidney scored again 9 minutes later when Brittney Koester
took a free kick outside the 18 and found the back of the
net. I am not sure if we got relaxed because we were ahead
or just made some simple mistakes, but Miamisburg came back
to tie the game at 2-2 with just 4 minutes left in the half.
One goal coming off a corner kick and another off a wide open
shot in the box. However, Tarah Heath sent a long ball to
Morgan Headings who was able to put the Jackets up by one
going into the half. I thought we played well the first half,
just gave up some easy shots and had a few defensive breakdowns,
which they converted into goals. The second half didn’t
start out quite so well for the jackets as the first did.
We started out flat and were allowing Miamisburg to split
our defense and we were miss-hitting a lot of balls. Miamisburg
scored two in a row off of corner kicks and then added another
with 10 minutes to go in the game. I was very disappointed
with our corner kick defense. When you allow a team 5 corner
kicks in a game and they score off of three of them, we are
not marking correctly and being aggressive toward the ball.
Sidney now found themselves down for the first time 5-3. However,
a call in the box allowed Sidney a free kick that was converted
by Brittney Koester. This brought the Jackets within one goal.
We fought hard at the end to try to tie it up, but with just
35 seconds left, Miamisburg was able to take advantage of
our defense once again and add another to seal the win. I
thought our offense did a nice job tonight. We were able to
put four goals up against the top ranking keeper in the GWOC.
The Junior Varsity won by a score of 3-0 to up their record
to 5-0. The team will play at Springfield Monday and then
at Troy Wednesday for their first game in the GWOC north division.
September 2, 2009
Sidney 3 Fairborn 1
The Sidney Lady Jackets defeated Fairborn Wednesday night
3-1 to increase Sidney’s record to 3-0-1. The Jackets
were first to score when Morgan Heading’s had a throw
to Brittney Koester who was able to convert for the Jackets.
With 19 minutes remaining in the half, Fairborn was able to
convert on a run from the defensive half. However, Sidney
battled back. With 9 minutes remaining in the half, Tarah
Heath had a corner kick that Brittney Koester was able to
get a head on and place in the back of the net. The score
was 2-1 at the half. The second half was dominated by the
jackets. The final score came on a pass from Morgan Headings
to Tarah Heath. I was happy with my girl’s performance
tonight. We played very well and made some outstanding runs.
I credit my defense for marking tight on Fairborn’s
top player and only allowing her to get two shots off on the
night. Sidney’s goal keeper Carolyn VanMatre had seven
saves. The junior varsity was also successful winning by a
score of 8-0.

Sidney 3 Stebbins 0
The Sidney Lady Jacket Soccer Team beat Stebbins Saturday
night 3-0 to up their record to 2-0-1. The game was dominated
by the Jackets, but they found trouble finding the back of
the net. The only goal in the first half was scored by Morgan
Headings with 22 minutes remaining in the half. Brittney Koester
scored with 29 minutes remaining the second half. She then
had a nice give and go with Tarah Heath. Tarah scored with
19 minutes left in the game. Sidney possessed the ball very
well and had some great passes; we just weren’t able
to convert. Every player was getting involved in the offense
and making runs; when that happens, the goals will come. The
Sidney JV team won 10-0.

August 24, 2009 - Lady Jackets
Soccer Start Season 1-0
Sidney 6 Tecumseh 1
The Sidney Lady Jackets Girl’s Soccer Team started off
their season Monday night beating Tecumseh 6-1. Tarah Heath
got the scoring started when she connected on a cross from Morgan
Headings just three minutes into the match. Tarah found the
back of the net again just five minutes later when she received
a through ball from Brittney Koester for the score. Tecumseh
then had a break away opportunity and connected making the score
2-1. At the 23 minute mark Taylor Rickert scored off a corner
kick from Heath. She also had another goal before the end of
the half off of a free kick. The second half was dominated by
the Jackets. Tarah had a break away for her third goal of the
game at the 30 minute mark. Brittney Koester finished up the
scoring with a one on one against Tecumseh’s goal keeper.
I thought tonight was a great first game for the girls. They
played hard and dominated the possession of the game. The girls
were really playing unselfish and making some great passes and
runs. We open up league play Wednesday night at home against
Fairmont. JV: Sidney 7 Tecumseh 0. |

October 1, 2008 - Clinch
at least a share of the GWOC North Title!
Sidney 1 Butler 0
The Sidney Lady Jackets Soccer Team fought off an aggressive
Butler team Wednesday night in GWOC north action, beating
Butler 1-0. The win clinches at least a share of GWOC north
title, and claims the most wins record in Sidney soccer history.
I am so proud of the effort of all my girls tonight. I told
them to leave it all on the field and they did. My defense
was excellent, and Molly was outstanding in the goal. The
game was knotted 0-0 at the half. Butler had been making some
great runs and we were not winning the 50/50 balls. I told
them to get attention they deserved; they had to beat someone
that people did not expect them to beat. They needed to keep
playing hard and match Butler’s aggressiveness. With
29 minutes to go in the second half Sidney got a chance to
go up with a penalty kick. Kelli Neubauer who usually takes
our penalty kicks was not on the field, so the kick was taken
by Brittney Koester. Brittney sent it just over the goal,
so the score remained tied. The teams were battling back and
forth and it looked like it would end in a 0-0 tie. However,
with just 4 minutes remaining in the game, Brittney Koester
was taken down in the box, which gave the jackets another
penalty kick opportunity. This time Kelli Neubauer was in
the game, and put it in the back of the net for the Jackets.
Butler came back with a fury in the last few minutes of thee
game, but the defense was able to hold them off and preserve
the 1-0 win. I am so happy for my team. The seniors this year
deserve the recognition they get and deserve to win the title.
The lady jackets have a chance to add to their all time winning
record with 2 regular season games left.
September 24, 2008
Sidney 6 Piqua 1
The Sidney Lady Jackets
posted their 11th win Wednesday night in GWOC north action
beating Piqua 6-1. We came out ready to go, and were making
some great runs, just not finishing. Sidney did get on the
board at the 21 minute mark when Tarah Heath passed a through
ball to Brittney Koester for the goal. Taylor Rickert followed
just a few minutes later for the second goal of the half.
The half would end with Sidney up just 2-1. Although we dominated
the majority of the half, we just couldn’t put the ball
in the back of the net. I told the girls at half to keep doing
what they were doing, and making the runs; eventually we will
get them to fall. Well, it only took 2 minutes into the second
half before Marissa Clark had a through ball to Brittney Koester
for the goal. Brittney returned the favor to Marissa for the
fourth goal. We were playing wide all night and spreading
their defense. This freed up a cross from Morgan Headings
to Brittney Koester. The final goal came on a pass from Koester
to Heath for the sixth goal. This win puts Sidney in second
of the GWOC north with a chance to share the title when they
go up against Butler next Wednesday at home. The victory also
ties the record with the most wins in a season by a Sidney
girl’s soccer team since its start in 1991. With at
least four games left, the Lady Jackets are hoping to own
that record themselves.
September 22, 2008
Sidney 6 Trotwood Madison 1
The Sidney Girls Soccer
Team upped their record to 10-1-1 with a win over Trotwood
Monday night 6-1. Even though the Jackets outshot Trotwood
42-4, they only converted on two in the first half and 4 in
the second. Goals were scored by Tarah Heath with three, Brittney
Koester, Taylor Rickert, and Kelli Neubauer all with one each.
Assists were credited to Marissa Clark, Brittney Koester,
and Tarah Heath. We definitely were not ready to go at the
start of the game, and they caught us on our heels. I cannot
commend enough the play of Katie Steenrod tonight. She was
the most consistent for us and really played hard all night.
The Jackets are back in action Wednesday night in another
GWOC north game at Piqua.
September 20, 2008
Sidney 7 Wapakoneta 1
The Sidney Lady Jackets Soccer Team got back to their winning
ways, beating Wapak on Saturday 7-1. The win improves their
record to 9-1-1. We had a week off since our last game, so
I was hoping that we would not come out flat footed. The Jackets
actually had a great start scoring in the first two minutes
of the game when a shot by Morgan Headings was deflected off
a Wapak defender and ended up in the back of the net. Moments
later Tarah Heath found Brittney Koester on a cross for the
second goal of the game. Brittney also converted on a break
away shot at the 20 minute mark. The last goal of the half
came on a cross from Morgan Headings to Tarah Heath. The girls
really put together a great half. They were making runs and
finishing shots, something we haven’t done well in our
last two games. Sidney was able to score three more in the
second half. Kelli Neubauer converted on a penalty kick, Tarah
Heath had a break away goal, and Brittney Koester hit Kaitlyn
Wolfe on a through ball for the last goal of the game. I am
happy with our effort and play today. The girls really overcame
a very aggressive Wapak team and stuck to our game plan. The
varsity team heads to Trotwood Monday night for their second
GWOC north game. The Junior Varsity was also successful beating
Wapak 2-0.
September 13, 2008
Sidney 2 Greenville 2
September 10, 2008
Sidney 1 Troy 2
The Sidney Lady Jackets
battled hard Wednesday night in a packed house in GWOC north
action against number 3 ranked Troy. Unfortunately, the Trojans
were able to come away with the 2-1 victory. It was great
to see the number of people that came out to support the girls.
The students and community were really cheering them on. The
game was scoreless going into the half even though Sidney
had some great opportunities in the first half. Tarah Heath
had a few shots that the keeper was just able to get her hands
on, and then we had a direct kick at about the 6 that we sailed
over the net. When you play in big games, you have to score
on every opportunity that you have, we just weren’t
able to do that tonight. I knew the game was going to be close;
both teams were making good runs at the beginning of the game.
Troy got on the board first in the second half when they were
given a penalty kick at the 32 minute mark. The Penalty kick
really took some of the air out of us. The girls were upset
with the call, and it is always difficult to bounce back after
a play like that, that could determine the outcome of the
game. Troy scored again at the 25 minute mark when Erin Yenney
of Troy scored on an open net. Our keeper got pulled out and
we were not able to clear the ball. Sidney continued to fight
till the end with Taylor Rickert scoring from outside the
18 with just 55 seconds remaining on the clock. Taylor played
outstanding for us tonight. I gave her the task of marking
Yenney, who was the GWOC player of the year last year, and
she did a great job. However, the worst part of the night
came with just 2 seconds left in the game when goal keeper
Molly Schriber collided with a Troy player and went down.
Molly had x-rays on her ankle and will be out for a little
while. She is tough and will bounce back; luckily we have
a little down time in our schedule. This wasn’t the
night I was looking for, but I have to give credit to the
girls for their effort and determination. You never want to
sit in the hospital with your all area goalkeeper after a
tough loss like that, but we will rebound and continue to
look ahead. The Lady Jackets are now 8-1. The
Junior Varsity tied 1-1 with the only goal being scored by
Laura Ferree. The Junior Varsity is now 6-1-1.
September 8, 2008
Sidney 9 Springfield 0
September 6, 2008
Sidney 5 Tecumseh 1
The Sidney Lady Jackets Girls Soccer Team continued their
winning ways beating Tecumseh Saturday 5-1. The Lady Jackets
got off to another good start scoring in the first three minutes
of the game when Brittney Koester passed the ball in front
of the net to a charging Marissa Clark for the goal. Clark
scored again 4 minutes later on a cross from Tarah Heath.
It is nice to be able to get our mid-field involved in the
offense. It takes a lot of pressure off of Tarah and Brittney.
Tecumseh was able to sneak one in off of a free kick at the
20 minute mark. Sidney, however, finished off the half scoring
again when Marissa Clark passed a through ball to Brittney
Koester for the goal. Going into the second half I told the
girls that we still needed to play our game and work on things
to make us better as a team. We didn’t want to fall
to a lower level or get into bad habits. The girls played
strong in the second half with Brittney Koester scoring two
more goals on passes from Clark and Heath. Brittney is now
leading the GWOC in offense with 14 goals on the season, which
is two more than her total from all of last season. The Jackets
are now 7-0, with a big week ahead. Monday night is Springfield,
and then Troy comes to town Wednesday night. Right now Troy
is ranked 4th in the Dayton area, and only have one loss,
it should be a great game.
September 3, 2008
Sidney 5 Miamisburg 1
The Sidney Lady Jacket
Soccer Team improved their record to 6-0 after beating Miamisburg
Wednesday night 5-1. This was probably the best game that
we have played so far this season. Usually we have a little
trouble getting started at the beginning of the game, but
tonight we came out ready to go, and scored 2 goals in the
first 10 minutes of play. The first goal came on a pass from
Brittney Koester to Tarah Heath. Three minutes later Heath
passed to Marissa Clark for another goal. The score remained
2-0 at half. Sometimes when we have a lead going into the
half, we come out and rely too much on that lead, and do not
do what we need to do to close out the game. The girls did
not have any trouble with that tonight. The third goal was
scored with 25 minutes left of play when Marissa Clark and
Taylor Rickert hooked up on a give and go, and Taylor finished
with a 25 yard shot that went over the keepers head. Taylor
has been playing extremely well for us. She stepped in when
we had an injury and I have been very impressed with her level
of play so far this season. Miamisburg them came back at the
15 minute mark and scored their first goal of the night. The
momentum was starting to change in their favor, and I told
my captains to keep the team in the game, and not to let emotions
get in the way. We fought through the Miamisburg push and
ended up scoring another two goals in the last 10 minutes
of the game, both coming from Brittney Koester on passes from
Tarah Heath and Marissa Clark. The girls really put together
a complete game tonight and I am proud of their effort. My
defense did a fantastic job of playing adjusting to Miamisburg’s
offense and made minimal mistakes. Molly Schriber also had
another great game for the jackets having 19 saves.
August 30, 2008
Sidney 1 Stebbins 0
It was a battle of the undefeated Saturday night at Stebbins.
Sidney went into the game with a 4-0 record, while Stebbins
was also perfect at 3-0. I thought we outplayed them during
the game. We just could not finish on goal. We ended the game
with 25 shots on goal, and only converted on one of them.
Sidney’s loan goal came from a free kick taken by Taylor
Rickert with 25 minutes left in the first half. Taylor played
a great game for us, and is taking all set plays for us now.
Sidney was able to hang tough for a very physical second half.
Thanks to the defensive play of Katie Steenrod and Abigail
Eppley. Neither girl would let anything past them, in a game
where they were being pushed around constantly. Molly Schriber
also had a great game again for the Jackets with 18 saves
in the shutout.
August 27, 2008
Sidney 8 Xenia 0
Sidney High School Girls Soccer Team improved their record
to 4-0 Wednesday night in a deciding win over Xenia 8-0. The
conditions weren’t the best to be playing in, with a
light rain falling until mid-way through the half, but the
girls battled and made adjustments. Sidney got on the board
at the 25 minute mark when the lethal combination of Tarah
Heath to Brittney Koester put the Jackets up 1-0. Brittney
scored again later in the half off a through ball from Marissa
Clark, and Morgan Heading finished off the scoring on a backside
run on a cross from heath. We did not finish well in the first
half. We had 22 shots on goal and only converted three of
them. I told the girls to work on their technique and controlling
the game, the shots would fall. The definitely did in the
second half, which was dominated by the Jackets. In the second
half Koester had two more goals, as well as Heath, and Taylor
Rickert scored from a free kick about 30 yards out. I am very
happy with the way the girls are playing so far this season.
Everyone is working together and it shows on the field. The
Junior Varsity team also posted another win, beating Xenia
4-2.

Sidney 1 Xenia 4
The Lady Jackets ended their season Monday night losing to Xenia
4-1 in tournament action. Xenia was very fast and we just couldn't
match their speed. Molly Schriber was able to save 15 from going
in, but they were shooting at her all night. We did not take a single
shot in the first half. I told the girls that we needed to make
runs and put some pressure on their goal keeper. Sidney did find
the back of the net at the 22 minute mark in the second half when
Tiffany Barhorst passed the ball to Tarah Heath for the goal. The
Lady Jackets continued to battle until the very end. I think if
we had another half after the game we may have been able to put
some more on the board. The girls fought hard to the end and never
gave up. I am very proud of their effort tonight and throughout
the whole season. It is difficult to come back from starting 0-5,and
finish 8-6-3. Our senior group of Elizabeth Clark, Allison Slonaker,
Sara Elliott, and Tiffany Barhorst showed great leadership throughout
the season, and worked very hard tonight.

Sidney 1 Fairborn 0
Sidney has finished their last 11 games with a record of 8-0-3.
The score was tied 0-0 at half. We weren't making great touches
and the runs were there, but we couldn't hit our teammates. The
girls got on the board in the second half when Kelli Neubauer took
a corner kick and Brittney Koester was there for the header. The
score remained 1-0 the remainder of the game. Fairborn did have
a few chances, but Sidney's keeper, Molly Schriber, was able to
keep the shutout. Today was Senior Day for our four Seniors, Allison
Slonaker, Elizabeth Clark, Sara Elliott, and Tiffany Barhorst. These
girls have shown great leadership throughout the season, and will
definitely be missed next year. The girls really wanted to win this
one for them. The Junior Varsity won 3-0. Goals were scored by Amber
Holloway, Kira Lee and Katy Easton.

Sidney 1 Troy 1
Troy came into the game with a 10-3-2 record, and were ranked 5th
in the Dayton area. The lady jackets needed to win to clinch the
tie in the GWOC north division. Troy got the scoring started at
the 28 minute mark when their standout Erin Yenney hit a re-direct
off the crossbar into the back of the net. We started off a little
slow. We have been off for a week, and it showed at the beginning
of the game. The lady jackets battled back, dominating the final
15 minutes of the half, and taking 8 shots on goal. We had plenty
of opportunities, but we just couldn't get one to fall. Sometimes
you have night like those. Sidney did get on the board at the 22
minute mark when Tarah Heath crossed the ball into the box, and
Brittney Koester was able to get a shot off. Tarah and Brittney
are a very good combination and hard to guard. Troy had them marked
and double marked pretty much the whole night. Although Sidney had
a chance to win it with 30 seconds left in the game, the keeper
was able to make the stop. Molly Schriber had another great game
for the lady jackets. She ended with 19 saves, and some were point
blank range. I thought the girls gave a great effort tonight. It
was a tough atmosphere and only two officials. They have been playing
so hard, and still went undefeated in the league, which is something
to be very proud of. In our last 10 games our record has been 7-0-3.
Sidney has its final game of the season Saturday against Fairborn
at home. JV: Sidney 1 Troy 2.

Sidney 4 Piqua 0
The Sidney Lady Jackets Soccer Team remains unbeaten in the league
by beating Piqua Wednesday night 4-0. The only goal in the first
half was scored by Brittney Koester from outside the 18 at the 27
minute mark. Piqua was really packing in the defense to play for
the tie. Brittney had a great shot that went right over the keeper's
head. At half-time we made adjustments to make better runs to the
outside and switch the field. The girls definitely listened because
not two minutes into the second half, Brittney Koester connected
with Tarah Heath for the second goal of the game. The third goal
came from Sara Elliott off of a free kick at the 22 minute mark.
The final goal came in the last 15 seconds of the game when Tiffany
Barhorst ran down a corner kick and crossed it in front of the goal
to Allison Slonaker. The girls played well tonight. They are still
coming off the big tie against Butler Monday night, so it took us
a little while to get settled into our game. The Lady Jackets now
play Troy next Wednesday for a shot at the league title.

Sidney 1 Butler 1
It was a battle all night long, and Sidney fought hard. Butler scored
at the 5 minute mark off a re-direction from a corner kick. We came
out a little flat at the beginning of the game. I think the girls
were a little nervous and wasn't used to Butler's speed. Once they
settled into the game, it was back and forth all night. Sidney came
out ready to go in the second half. They were fighting for every
loose ball and came away with a score when Brittney Koester had
a nice through ball to Tarah Heath for the goal. Tarah was running
all over the place all night trying to get one to go through, finally
one did and she took advantage of it. I am so proud of the effort
the girls provided tonight. Butler is not an easy place to play
since the game is played on a Football field. The field was much
more narrower than our normal field, and quite ran down. The officiating
was less than par, but they girls overcame the obstacles and played
a hard fought battle. I credit the defense for their consistency
in every game. They made few mistakes tonight, and Molly played
outstanding, having 19 saves. Sidney remains tied with Butler at
the top of the GWOC North, with two league games left to play. One
of those games is Wednesday against Piqua at home. The JV team lost
4-0.
September
29, 2007
Sidney 3 Celina 1
The Lady Jackets extended their winning streak to six, beating Celina
Saturday 3-1. Sidney started the scoring early when Brittney Koester
hit a shot from outside the 18 at the 33 minute mark. Sidney continued
the pressure when Tarah Heath had a nice cross to Brittney Koester
for the second goal just three minutes later. The rest of the half
was played back and forth. The second half was much of the same.
Sidney got on the board for their third goal at the 27 minute mark
when Marissa Clark followed a missed shot, and re-directed it into
the goal. Celina was able to get on the board with 5 minutes left
in the game. I thought we played well today. We haden't played in
9 days due to rain, so we came out a little rusty and sluggish,
but did what we needed to do to get the win. We have had trouble
with Celina in the past, and they had only lost one coming into
today, so I am happy with the effort my girls gave today. The girls
head to Butler Monday night. Both teams are tied for first in the
GWOC North Division. JV: Sidney 0 Celina 1.
September
20, 2007
Sidney 1 Wapakoneta 0
Sidney won its 5th straight Thursday night when the lady jackets
defeated Wapak in an aggressive battle 1-0. The first goal was scored
at the 22 minute mark on a cross from Marissa Clark to Tarah Heath.
Even though the jackets dominated most of the game, they were unable
to finish on many shots. Wapak was a very aggressive team, and I
think that got us out of our game a little bit. I told the girls
to just play their game and not be influenced by the other team.
I think if we could have scored again, it would have taken some
of fight out of Wapak, but we just couldn't get another one to fall.
I told the girls not to be disappointed because it is still a win,
but we definitely would have liked to have played better. We are
nursing a couple injuries, since we have played 5 games in 9 days.
September
17, 2007
Sidney 3 Northmont 1
The Sidney Lady Jackets beat Northmont Monday night 3-1 to record
its first win ever against the team since Girls Soccer began at
the school. This also marks our fourth win in a row. We started
off the game with Brittney Koester stealing the ball and taking
it down for a shot in the first 5 seconds. It hit off the crossbar,
but I think that definitely caught Northmont by surprise. Sidney
kept battling, and finally got the first goal at 27:12 off an assist
from Tarah Heath to Marissa Clark. Northmont scored with 11:43 left
in the first half off of a corner kick. The ball bounced around
the 18, and we were unable to clear it. Sidney started off the half
playing back and forth until the 22:45 mark when Tarah Heath had
an outstanding cross in front of the goal to Brittney Koester who
had a perfect head ball in the upper 90 of the goal. The final goal
came on a breakaway by Brittney Koester at the 17:00 minute mark.
I cannot commend our defense enough. My starting back four of Katie
Steenrod, Kristen Roby, Elizabeth Clark, and Stephanie Schloss did
an outstanding job. They did what I asked of them, and did not make
mistakes. Molly Schriber was back in the goal for us tonight and
did a great job recording 15 saves. I am so very proud of my team
and their effort in tonight’s game. They all played their
hearts out, and deserved to beat this team. Sidney is still undefeated
in the GWOC north division. JV: Sidney 1 Northmont 4. Goal being
scored by Kira Lee.
September
15, 2007
Sidney 1 Greenville 5
The Sidney Lady Jackets made it three in a row Satuday beating Greenville
5-1. Sidneys first goal came at 27:33 on an assist from Tarah Heath
to Brittney Koester. The score at half was just 1-0. The girls dominated
the half, and we had a lot of opportunities, but we just couldn't
capitalize. The girls came out in the second half and scored quickly
when Tiffany Barhorst assisted Marissa Clark who had a head ball
into the net for the goal. Allison Slonaker then had a through ball
to Brittney Koester who scored on a break-away. Sara Elliott then
assisted Tarah Heath for the fourth goal. The final goal of the
game came on an assist from Brittney Koester to Allison Slonaker.
I feel this was definitely our best game of the season. The girls
were making great runs and distributing the ball well. When you
have 5 goals with 5 assists, you know the girls are using their
teammates, and making great passes. It's nice to see them play so
well together.
September
12, 2007
Sidney 8 Trotwood Madison 0
The Sidney Lady Jackets made it two in a row Wednesday night defeating
Trotwood 8-0. The game was offensively dominated by the Jackets
scoring 6 goals in the first half. Sidney scored its first goal
just 1 minute into the game on a cross from Sara Elliott that both
Tarah Heath and Marissa Clark hit in. Brittney Koester scored the
second goal off of a rebounded shot just 2 minutes later. Marissa
Clark then had an assist to Tarah Heath for the thrid goal at the
29 minute mark. At the 23rd minute Tarah Heath assisted Brittney
Koester for the fourth goal of the half. Sara Elliott had the fifth
goal at 21:32 on an assist from Elizabeth Clark. The final goal
of the half came at the 14 minute mark on an assist from Tiffany
Barhorst to Amber Holloway. The second half was much of the same,
but the girls had a chance to switch up positions and play new spots.
Our first goal in the second half came on an assist by Aubrey Gaylor
to Hilary Davis. The final goal in the game was scored by Tara Beard
with 12 minutes left to play. I thought the girls played very well,
and did a much better job of taking good shots and finishing. Trotwood
wasn't at the same skill level as us, but we did a good job of not
dropping our level of play, and working on good passing a shooting.
Trotwood was our first northern conference game, so it is nice to
start off with a victory.
September
10, 2007
Sidney 5 North 0
Lady Jackets beat Springfield North 5-0 Monday night. The first
goal came at 22:38 when Sara Elliott stole a ball from a Springfield
North player and took it in for the goal. Sara also had the second
goal at 12:20 on an assist from Marissa Clark. The score at half
was only 2-0, but should have been much more than that. We had trouble
finishing all night. The girls were taking good shots, we just couldn't
get any to go for us. Sidney started the second half off with a
goal when Marissa Clark followed a diflection from the keeper and
scored at the 27 minute mark. Soon after, Brittney Koester had a
great pass to Tarah Heath for the fourth goal. Molly Schriber scored
our last goal at 17:23. Molly is normally our goal keeper, but is
just coming back from a knee injury, so she played a few minutes
in the field and was able to produce. The girls played a very solid
game, dominating the whole time. Finishing was the only problem
of the night, taking 41 shots and only connecting on 5 of them.
September
8, 2007
Sidney 2 Tecumseh 3
The Girls Varsity Team lost on Saturday to Tecumseh 3-2. Sidney
scored in the first two minutes of the game on a pass from Marissa
Clark to Sara Elliott. Tecumseh then scored two before the end of
the half. In the second half at the 29:43 mark, Brittney Koester
had an assist to Tarah Heath to tie the game. Tecumseh scored late
in the second half on a free kick to take the lead 3-2. I thought
our defense played well, we just had a few mental breakdowns, and
they cost us. We are still looking for our first win, but the girls
are still putting forth a great effort, eventually, we will get
there. The varsity team heads to Springfield North Monday night.
JV: Sidney 2 Tecumseh 3.
September
4, 2007
Sidney 3 Fairmont 3
The Lady Jackets tied a tough Fairmont team 3-3 last night. The
game was definitely a team effort by the girls. Marissa Clark had
the first goal of the game with 10:36 left in the first half. She
scored on a cross from Jessica Griffis. The score was 1-0 at half
time. The girls came out in the second half a little flat, but battled
through and scored the second goal at 29:48. Kelli Neubauer had
a free kick that Marissa Clark won from the keeper and passed it
back out to Kelli for a 20 yard goal. I thought Marissa really stepped
up her level of play tonight. The girls went through a tough patch
giving up 3 goals to Fairmont in only 6 minutes toward the end of
the second half. The girls really battled back, and ended up scoring
the last goal on a pentalty kick by Sara Elliott at 10:23. I am
very proud of the girls and their effort last night. We haven't
started off the season the way we would like, but the girls are
really pulling together and battling back. Tara Beard had a good
game in the goal recording 12 saves. Molly Schriber also played
a few minutes in the second half, she is trying to recover from
a knee injury earlier this season. The lady jackets travel to Tecumseh
on Saturday. JV: Sidney 2 Fairmont 2. The JV Girls Team also tied
Fairmont 2-2, with goals coming from Amber Holloway and Samantha
Young.
September
1, 2007
Sidney 1 Graham 5
The only goal came from Brittney Koester with 23 minutes left in
the first half. We had difficulty playing on the narrow field, and
couldn't catch any breaks. We play Fairmont at home Tuesday night.
JV: Sidney 4 Graham 0.
August
29, 2007
Sidney 1 Xenia 3
The Varsity Girl's Soccer Team headed back to Xenia for the second
night in a row to make up the varsity game that was called due to
lightening Wednesday night. The girls started off the game very
flat footed and were not being aggressive going after the ball.
The game was very physical with little calls being made. The girls
had a tough time adjusting in the first half. Xenia scored in the
34th minute on a backside cross. We were not marking up properly,
and she was in great position. Xenia scored again with 14 minutes
left to play in the first half. The second half started out about
the same way the first half did. Xenia converted for their third
goal with 27 minutes remaining in the half. At about the 25 minute
marker the girls really started to play well. We were being more
physical and attempting to win 50/50 balls. Our runs were timed
much better, and our passes to the outside were throwing their defense
off. Our goal came on an assist from Allison Slonaker to Tarah Heath
with 12 minutes left in game. We dominated the remainer of the game,
but it was a little too late to dig out of the whole we put ourselves
in earlier. Tara Beard replaced our starting goalie, Molly Schriber,
who sprained her MCL last game. She did a very good job in the goal
tonight, having 15 saves, and some of them being point blank shots.
I definitley wish we could bottle the way we played the last 25
minutes of that game and turn it into 80 minutes. We head to Graham
on Saturday, and are back at home Tuesday against Fairmont.
August
27, 2007
Sidney 1 Miamisburg 3
Miamisburg scored first with 34 minutes left in the first half off
of a corner kick. Sidney had many attempts, and finally connected
with Tarah Heath scoring at the 15:00 mark. We dominated the remainder
of the half and had more attempts on goal, we just couldn't finish.
The second half was back and forth until Miamisburg had a break
away with 9 minutes left. Our keeper, Molly Schriber came out to
contest the shot, and went down hard. She had to end up leaving
the game to get x-rays. Hopefully everything will be ok, because
she is irreplacable. After she left Brittney Koester stepped in
and did a good job. She accepted the responsiblity and had some
nice saves. Miamisburg did get their final goal with 4 minutes left
in the half. It was a nice shot from 20 yards out. The girls battled
so hard all game, and the score does not do justice to how the girls
played. Even after Molly went down, they got right back at it and
tried to put one in. We had several chances, but just didn't connect.
My defensive four of Stephanie Schloss, Kristen Roby, Elizabeth
Clark, and Katie Steenrod played a great game. We had very few defensive
break downs, and they really lead us tonight.
August
22, 2007
Sidney 1 Wayne 4
The girls played a tough game Monday night against Wayne; in very
warm temperatures. It was an agressive battle, and Molly Schriber,
goalkeeper, had an outstanding game, saving 37 shots. Sara Elliott
scored the only goal on a penelty kick. Tarah Heath had a great
game, challenging every ball, and had a few good shots on goal.
The girls battled until the finish and really showed true dedication.
We will analyze the films and go back to work. |
