May 2, 2008 - Endurance Sports Wayne Invitational
The Sidney Track Team took a select group to the Endurance Sports Wayne Invitational Track Meet Friday night. At first it didn't appear as though the weather would cooperate, but rain or shine the competition went on. It was a great night full of excellent competition, and although I am biased, I feel some of the most exciting parts of the night involved our team. Jack Foy in his first year running track qualified for the finals in both the 100m (11.69) and 200m (23.32), both PR's. He ended up placing 7th overall in the 100m! Tarah Heath ran a PR in the 300m Hurdles with a time of 50.85. Luke Roberts ran a PR in the open 800 with a time of 2:11.31. Jordan faced off against Michael Willey, 4th in the 110m Hurdles and State Champion in the 300 Hurdles in 2007. In the 110m Hurdles Jordan ran the best race of his life and the finish was separated by .02 seconds! Jordan set the Sidney High School record by running a 14.25. In the 300m Hurdles Jordan duplicated his performance in the 110's by again running the race of his life. He again finished second, and set a Sidney High School record with a time of 38.12. It was a great night for Sidney Track and Field, and we look forward to hosting our last home meet this Thursday. Go Jackets! Girls Results: Leah Morris - tied for 7th in the High Jump with a jump of 4' 8".

It was a good showing by both the Girl's and Boy's Teams by winning the meet. The girls are really starting to come together nicely and there were some PR's put up by them as well. The boys continue to do well also. We had some kids try different events and we were pleased with their efforts. Both teams are working hard and it shows in their performances. It was a great night with excellent competition. We had several PR’s and a meet record was set as well. The coaches are very proud of the kid’s performances and look forward to continuous improvements. We are really becoming a True Team at this point and learning a lot about the sport and each other. We hosted our annual Sidney Invitational tonight and what a night it was. The coaches are extremely proud of the efforts put forth by all of the athletes who participated. There were several PR's put up by our kids and this is a testament to their hard work. Day in and day out we ask our teams to step up and they continue to answer the call. Given the fact that we are still early in the season, we are really moving in the right direction.

This was our first big meet of the season and we were very pleased with the athlete’s performances. Several kids stepped up and produced PR’s and also showed the surrounding area that Sidney Track is becoming a program to be taken seriously. The following athletes placed in the meet - Girls 100m Hurdles: Tarah Heath 8th with a time of 18.31. High Jump: Leah Morris tied for 3rd with a jump of 4’ 8” (PR). Shot Put: Molly Schriber 7th with a throw of 32 10.5”.

The Sidney Track teams traveled to Ben Logan High School for a tri meet yesterday. We were very pleased with our kids performances considering it was the first meet of the season. This gave us an opportunity to see how our teams would perform and the results excite us as we head into our season! It should be noted that all times are hand times. Sidney High School took 5 athletes to compete at Cedarville University in an indoor meet. Girls - 55m Hurdles: Tarah Heath 10.14 prelims, 10.06 finals (10th place overall). 55m dash: Leslie Burdiss 9.02 (61st overall). 1600m: Courtney Morris 6:41:99 (25th overall). 400m: Leslie Burdiss 1:16:96 (50th overall). 200m: Tarah Heath 30.59 (31st overall), Leslie Burdiss 33.31 (78th overall). 800m: Courtney Morris 3:06:69 (34th overall). There were several PR’s in the meet, Allison Blair, Alexandra Ordway, Thomas Minniear, Jordan Goffena, Anthony Ordway, Dan Blindauer, Ryan Watercutter, and the Boy’s 4x800m Relay and the Boy’s 4x400m Relay Teams. The Coaches would like to congratulate a great effort by all of the Athletes. Jordan also set the meet record in the 300m Hurdles with a time of 39.72. Way to go Jordan! Go Jackets!

Smith Resets High Jump Record
On April 24th at the Fairborn "Aukerman" Relays Shelbi Smith re-broke her own school record in the High Jump. Shelbi originally broke the school record as a Freshmen where she jumped 5' 1". As a Sophomore she jumped 5' 3". Now as a junior she has once again improved upon her own school and personal record with a leap of 5'4". Keep up the great improvement Shelbi!

There were many highlights in the meet, but the big boys running the 4x100 relay was one of the most memorable. This is the first time in history that both the Boys and Girls won the Sidney Invitational. Hard work and unselfish efforts were the reason for our victory. Go Jackets!

Aaron Dinzeo had a 2 second PR in the 1600, and an 8 second PR in the 3200. Alex Ordway had a 26 second PR in the 3200 and Virginia had a 1:23 PR in the 3200. Virginia Mummey and Matt Kennedy received Athlete of the Meet honors. Great job to all, GO JACKETS!

The Coaching Staff is very pleased with the efforts put forth by all of the athletes who participated. Everyone gave it their all, and really impressed us.
