Basketball
Shirt Fundraiser
The Girls Basketball Team will be selling t-shirts for $10 and long
sleeve shirts for $20. Neither one specifies boys or girls, just
a Basketball or Basketball hoop with the words Sidney or Yellow
Jackets. The short sleeve black t-shirt is running true to size,
however, the long sleeve t-shirt is running two (2) sizes smaller
than normal. I have a limited number of the long sleeve due to this
problem, but can special order. The decal can be purchased as is
for $10 or if the parents on either boys or girls want to include
a name and jersey number the price is $12. Click
here to email in your order or call Christa at 937-423-0459.
If you work within Sidney City Schools you will need to submit your
order directly to Christa's email address, fleetmaint@bright.net.

Sidney 1st at 334
Sidney won their first team championship in two years as they rolled
up 334 pts. The team effort was outstanding with 34 total pins being
the key to the title. Sidney had a good balanced attack with the
following wrestlers placing: 1st - Derek Spangler (125 lbs.) 2nd
- Elisha Price (112 lbs.), Thomas Minniear (140 lbs.), Gavin Spangler
(145 lbs.) 3rd - Cody Davis (103 lbs.), Darian Ginter (152 lbs.),
Kyle Saunders (171 lbs.), 4th - Ethan Headings (160 lbs.), Dustin
Opsomer (189 lbs.), 5th Zach Dyer (152 lbs). The tournament was
a costly one as the Jackets lost the services of junior Gavin Spangler
for several weeks with a broken elbow. Click

December 11, 2008 - Sidney Super-Tri
Sidney 65 Tipp City 11
The Jackets took it to Tipp right from the start to build an early
big lead winning a couple of close bouts that could have gone either
way. The big difference in the dual was Sidney was more aggressive
and picked up several pins. A solid win over a lesser experienced
squad.

Cory Cotterman
January 4, 2008 - 2nd Annual Buckeye
High School Classic Tournament
Sidney 5th
Sidney competed in the 2nd Annual Buckeye High School Classic Tournament
at Sequoia Pro Bowl in Columbus on Saturday. The tournament is put
on by the OSU Bowling Club. There were 18 boy’s teams from
across the state that entered the tournament. The tournament consisted
of 3 regular games and 5 baker games. The shot was a sport pattern;
much more difficult than a normal house shot. Cory Cotterman earned
3rd all tournament honors in the boy’s division by throwing
a 202, 179, and 186 for a 567. The high scorer for the boys shot
a 600. The team placed 5th out of the 18 teams. They were just 98
pins below qualifying for the finals. Westerville Central won the
boy’s division for the second year in a row. The Westerville
teams practice at Sequoia Lanes. The Boy’s Team is coached
by Ohio State University’s Girl’s coach, Jeff Robinson.
I’m extremely proud of all of our bowlers. We do not ever
get the opportunity to bowl on a sport shot other than this one
tournament. It’s a very different condition and it’s
a tough shot. It’s difficult to keep your drive up when you’re
throwing 40 pins or more below average. We had worked last week
on using a dull, arching ball and a plastic ball to cut down on
over-reaction. It seemed to help. This tournament is also a great
opportunity to get noticed by the OSU coaching staff. They are definitely
interested in recruiting Sidney’s players.
December 22, 2008
Beavercreek 2429, Sidney 2269, Lebanon 2151
Sidney boys only lost to Beavercreek by 160 pins. They were down
222 pins after the two games of regulation and came back in baker
throwing a 214 and a 207, narrowing the gap to 160 pins. Sidney
was led by Chris Duncan who threw a 224 and a 215 and by Cory Cotterman
who added a 226 and a 212. Sidney boy’s current record is
1-3
December 17, 2008
Sidney 2240 Northmont 2274
SHS bowling got off to a great start. On Wednesday at Timber Lanes
the lanes started-out wet, but quickly dried-out. The kids did a
great job with making adjustments. The boys were led by Freshman,
Trent Knoop who rolled a 214 and a 201. Cory Cotterman rolled a
206 and Chris Duncan a 201. The boys entered the baker games with
a 129 pin deficit. The guys made an excellent effort, throwing a
181 and a 212, making up 95 pins, but it wasn’t enough. Northmont
finished 34 pins higher than Sidney. Current record is 0-1. |

Kristen Abbott and Katie Keith
January 4, 2008 - 2nd Annual Buckeye
High School Classic Tournament
Sidney 3rd
There were 14 girl’s teams that competed. Kristin Abbott took
1st place all tournament honors by shooting a 609 (183, 188, and
238). Katie Keith earned 6th place all tournament honors with her
517 (151, 170, and 196). The girl’s took a little time during
the first game to find a line that would work for them. We tried
the outside line and it seemed a bit too wet. Our first game only
totaled 697 but was high enough to put us in 6th place. Then the
girls found their groove. They came back the 2nd game to throw an
819, an increase of 122 pins. The field only averaged a 26 pin gain.
Again in the third game the girls stepped up their game to an 849
while the rest of the field dropped by 14 pins. At the end of the
three game regular round Sidney was in 2nd place. When we got to
baker we simply fell apart. We resorted to some bad habits that
cost us quite a bit in score. Our baker scores were 114, 137, 159,
158, and 140. That dropped us to 4th place but it was good enough
to get us into the playoff round. In the playoff round the 1st and
4th place teams played each other and the 2nd and 3rd place teams
played each other in a best of 3 baker games. We were matched against
last year’s girl’s champion Westerville. Sidney rolled
a 167 to Westerville’s 145; giving Sidney the first win. In
the second game we missed too many spares and dropped the game 161-131.
The third game was a nail-biter. We almost threw a clean game. Westerville
strung 4 strikes together in the middle of the game. The final score
was 189-180. Westerville went on to beat Austiontown Fitch (Youngstown)
to claim the girl’s title for the 2nd year in a row. I’m
extremely proud of all of our bowlers. We do not ever get the opportunity
to bowl on a sport shot other than this one tournament. It’s
a very different condition and it’s a tough shot. It’s
difficult to keep your drive up when you’re throwing 40 pins
or more below average. We had worked last week on using a dull,
arching ball and a plastic ball to cut down on over-reaction. It
seemed to help. This tournament is also a great opportunity to get
noticed by the OSU coaching staff. They are definitely interested
in recruiting Sidney’s players.
December 22, 2008
Beavercreek 2380, Sidney 1981, Lebanon 1382
Sidney faced a tough opponent –Beavercreek on Monday. Kathryn
Cox, for Beavercreek threw a 246 and a 249. For Sidney, high series
was thrown by Courtney Thorpe with a 186 and a 175. The girl’s
score was good enough to roll past Lebanon. This was Sidney’s
first loss. Their record is now 3-1.
December 17, 2008
Sidney 2022 Northmont 1609
SHS bowling got off to a great start. On Wednesday at Timber Lanes
the lanes started-out wet, but quickly dried-out. The kids did a
great job with making adjustments. The girls were led by Freshman
Bethany Pellman with a 202, Kristin Abbott with a 193, and Jenna
Shaffer with a 189. Current record is 1-0. |
