Parker Jordan: GWOC Scholar Athlete*. Randy Ostendorf: GWOC Scholar Athlete*, SHS Yellow Jacket Award. Andrew Bonnoront: SHS JV Coaches Award. Trent Brannam: SHS Most Improved Player.

*Criteria for this award: Senior athlete having at least a 3.2 GPA for 6 straight semesters.

May 14, 2009 - SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT
Sidney 10 West Carrollton 1
The Jackets opened tournament play last night with a convincing 10-1 victory over West Carrolton. Cory Echols pitched the first 5 innings surrendering 3 hits and an earned run while Justin Stewart came on in the 6th to notch 2 scoreless innings. Sidney got off to hot start as John Lowe homered to open the game and Echols held the Pirates scoreless through 3 innings. West Carrolton notched a run in the top of the 4th, but Sidney answered in a big way with 4 in the bottom of the inning and 5 more in the 5th. John Lowe, Cory Echols and Alex Lochard tallied two hits a piece. The tournament win marks 9 straight seasons the Jackets have got at least one Tournament win and the 5th consecutive year the Jackets will appear in the Sectional Finals.

Lindsey Ciriegio: 1st Team GWOC North, SHS Highest Batting Average (.400). Brooke Lambert: 2nd Team GWOC North, SHS Most Improved Varsity Player. Dara Wildermuth: 2nd Team GWOC North, SHS Most Put-outs (141). Kerri Adkins: GWOC North Honorable Mention, SHS Most Assists (77). Brittney Koester: SHS Varsity Rookie of the Year. Kristen Roby and Emily Ocke have been selected to play in the Softball SW District Division I All-star Game on June 10th at 7pm at the University of Dayton. Congratulations!

The Jackets dropped a tough one to Wayne last night 7-4. This game turned into a slugfest, with the two teams combining for 22 hits, 7 of which were doubles, and one a 2-run homerun by Sidney's Brooke Lambert. The Jackets return to action this afternoon when Butler comes to town. This key GWOC North matchup has championship implications. Come out tonight and root on the Jackets.

May 22, 2009 - DISTRICT TOURNAMENT
The Sidney Track Team traveled to Troy to compete in the District Finals Friday night. Unfortunately we had some events transpire in the preliminary meet that resulted in a disqualification of our relays, as well as Jack Foy competing in the 100 and 200. There was miscommunication between coaches and officials regarding a rule, and consequently Jack was disqualified. We don't want to let this sour situation spoil the rest of the meet for us though. We placed in several events and have two athletes who have qualified for Regionals. Jasmine Glover (Freshman) will high jump on Wednesday and Aaron Dinzeo (Junior) will run the 1600m and 3200m on Friday. Both will hope to finish in the top 4 and qualify for the State Meet. Go Jackets! Results - 1600m: Aaron Dinzeo 4th at 4:31.49 (Personal Record / Qualified fro Regionals). 300 Hurdles: Thomas Minniear 7th at 41.02. 400m: Matt Kennedy 6th at 51.88. 3200m: Aaron Dinzeo 4th at 10.11.95 (Qualified for Regionals).

May 19, 2009 - DISTRICT TOURNAMENT
The Sidney Track Team traveled to Troy to compete in the District Track Meet. Overall we had a solid day with several advancing. Unfortunately, Junior Antwon Thomas pulled his hamstring while running the third leg of the 4x100m Relay. We will regroup and prepare for Friday's finals in the 4x200 (Antwon was a member of this relay as well). Jacket Pride prevails, and we move forward with our squad to Friday's finals. The top 4 placers in Friday's finals will advance to Regional competition. Freshman Jasmine Glover won the high jump and has already advanced to Regionals. Go Jackets! Boys Qualifying Results - 100m: Jack Foy 3rd at 11.20. 4x200m Relay: Anthony Ordway, Matt Kennedy, Antwon Thomas, Jack Foy 4th at 1:29.42 (NEW SCHOOL RECORD). 1600m: Aaron Dinzeo 2nd at 4:46.27. 400m: Matt Kennedy 6th at 51.29. 300m Hurdles: Thomas Minniear 6th at 41.64. 800m: Killian Roddy 4th at 2:08.61, Dan Blindauer 16th at 2:12.77. 200m: Jack Foy 6th at 22.56. 4x400m Relay: Matt Kennedy, Yuta Suzuki, Thomas Minniear, Jack Foy 5th at 3:33.75.
